As with any modern city, the abundance of wireless internet access is always a bonus, particularly open unecrypted ones. So whilst out and about in the very heart of Tokyo, just by the imperial palace, I whipped out my note book to see if there’s any coverage. Lo-and-behold a nice strong signal just a stones throw from the imperial palace gardens (Mainichi Shinbun fo be precise – probably their access point). Here’s a little snap shot on the old webcam of the spot where I found time to do a couple of hours work.
So my little chickens, a little bit of regular bloggin is of the essence…
Currently living in an area of tokyo called 中野 (nakano). A small south facing one bedroom flat:

However shortly to be moving onwards and upwards into a new abode, this time a long term let rather than the current ‘monthly mansion’. In Tokyo (and perhaps all big cities in Japan) such ‘monthly mansions’ abound, these are essentially ‘ready to go’ short term contract flats, they include all the mod cons for japanese life, furniture, tv, internet, fridge, ‘shower toilet’ (see …) and even a fair supply of bin bags – just add tennant. Moreover although they are a bit more expensive, they do not require big up front deposits that the long term lets do (up to 3 or 4 months is not uncommon).
So to conclude my inconclusive musings, here’s a picture of Nakano Station:
So a Saturday afternoon excersion to harajuku (原宿) with my new found American friend, Paul. Harajuku is a rather upbeat hang out for the Tokyo youths, performing bands, fashion clad twenty somethings and the infamous ‘cos play’ school kids abound.
Some readers may have already viewed the ‘Free Hugs’ spectacle on www.youtube.com, well we met a rather pleasant young japanese fellow sporting a free hugs notice. He was all to happy to oblige us with a photo as pictured below.

So as part of the Kirkland Tokyo Tourist itinery a trip up the Tokyo Government building to the observation level was scheduled. This is one of the taller skyscrapers in Shinjuku.
Above one can observe the view, note the distinct lack of an end to the urban sprawl. Now the observation level has almost 360 viewing, so we can see the view from the other direction:
And we can see the urban sprawl continues in the other direction as far the eye can see.
